National Parks and Wildlife (Wombat Burrows) Amendment Bill

I have recently received a considerable amount of feedback on a very concerning piece of legislation regarding wombat burrows.

The Labor government and the Greens have joined forces to put together legislation which adds much more obligation onto landowners that have to deal with wombats on their property, and have included substantially more ramifications on any landowners who ‘disturb’ wombat burrows.

They have also given the Environment Minister substantial powers to designate ‘Wombat Burrow Protection Zones’ wherever they please in the State, but we have no idea where they intend to do this.

I spoke out against such a move, which complicates life for landowners, especially those farmers who have to deal with significant populations of wombats across their farms, and you can watch my speech by clicking below.
