Nominate a Citizen of the Year in SA

South Australian communities are founded on the community spirit of volunteers, and the
Australia Day Council of South Australia Citizen of The Year Awards are an ideal opportunity
to nominate active local individuals, groups, and events.

Shadow Local Government Minister Sam Telfer said volunteering was the lifeblood of any
community and those who dedicate their time deserve our thanks for their efforts.

“Wherever you are across South Australia, our communities rely on people putting their hand
up and giving up their time for no personal reward,” Mr Telfer said.

“These are the people who keep our community organisations running, and the Citizen of the
Year awards are the perfect opportunity to acknowledge the efforts of those people who
sometimes go unnoticed.”

Mr Telfer said a variety of awards were on offer for different contributions, and contributors,
throughout the state.

“Four different categories of awards are on offer across every Local Government Area of
South Australia, including Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Community Event
of the Year and an Active Citizenship Award,” Mr Telfer said.

“Citizen of the Year Awards are presented by individual Councils at their Australia Day
celebrations, and each Council can also forward the details of their award winners to the
Australia Day Council of South Australia, who will then consider them for statewide awards.

“Every community has a story to tell about their local volunteers and their unique events, and
I encourage all South Australians to nominate someone deserving before applications
close.”

The closing date for nominations is at the discretion of each Local Government Area.
