Telfer asks for REX-planation

State Member for Flinders Sam Telfer MP has written to REX Airlines after numerous reports of regional South Australian services being cancelled by the airline, hoping to receive an understanding for the community about the recent unreliable service.

Mr Telfer said that the REX Airline service is essential for the isolated community of Ceduna, which relies it for many different service provisions, such as transportation of medical professionals which service both the town and wider district.

“The functionality of the community as a whole relies on safe and reliable air travel, for both services and the local community members, and that reliability has been difficult as of late” Mr Telfer said.

“I know there can be many challenging commercial imperatives in the aviation business, but Rex needs to be mindful of the tremendous social and economic impact its services have on regional communities, and work in partnership with these communities to balance those needs,” Mr Telfer said.

“Our community need to know of any issues that there might be currently with the service, what steps are being instigated to remedy those issues, and also any potential need for involvement of levels of government to help that to happen.”
